Over the last two years, far too many Christians have trusted that their government had their best interests at heart. When churches were told to shut down, most did so willingly so they could show how much they loved their neighbor. Dr. Fauci, the CDC, and state governors told them it would save lives, so why should they believe otherwise? After all, it is governments job to protect people. Even if they may have been misguided in their strategies, surely their intentions were nothing more than saving lives, right?
For any pastor who struggled with the decision of shutting down their church, Hebrews 10:25 should have been the deciding factor: “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” Whether or not government was right in their approach to defeating the virus is completely irrelevant for us as Christians. As Christ’s second coming draws near, we are commanded to meet together more, not less. Therefore, when a conflict arises between the laws of man and the laws of God, “we ought to obey God rather than men” (Acts 5:29).
There is yet another aspect to this issue that Christians should consider. As I already mentioned, most Christians blindly trusted the “experts” and their advice on combatting the pandemic. If these Christians would have been more deeply rooted in the Word, they would have remembered another Biblical command from Psalm 146:3, “Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.”
This verse is the reason that to this day I can’t understand how so many Christians fell hook, line, and sinker for the narrative of fear. I’m not talking about those who are Christians in name only, rather some of the ones who seemed very spiritually mature. Those who were pillars of their local churches. I’m sure if you would have asked them three years ago what they would have done in the event the government told them to close their church for any reason, they would have used some of the same verses I’ve used. In fact, I would go as far as to say many of them would have predicted that the American church would eventually suffer persecution. They knew it was coming, but when it finally did come, they completely lost all sense of principal, reason, and discernment they ever had. Why is that?
The simple answer is they put their trust in princes. They let fear so heavily cloud their judgment that they became willing to follow any government edict to save their lives. Throughout history, fear has always been a dictator’s greatest tool to usher in tyranny. Fear of an ethnic group, fear of financial collapse, and fear of death have all been used to implement the most egregious forms of oppression. The covid lockdowns, along with the mask and vaccine mandates, are the worst forms of tyranny America has ever seen. And Christians not only complied, but even helped enforce these grievances, all because they were afraid. There is a reason why God has told us hundreds of times in his word not to be afraid (see Joshua 1:9, Proverbs 3:25, and Deuteronomy 31:6).
I’m not saying all this to downplay the virus. It has definitely killed many people and is not something to be ignored, but the actions of our government and our health care systems were not only overreactions but simply made things worse. Most were completely blind to this fact, because they fell for the narrative of fear. If we would have set aside our fears and approached the virus with prayer and common sense, our response would have been far less devastating.
The war on early treatment is a perfect example of this. The hospital protocol for covid treatment for most of the pandemic has been to stay home with no early treatment until you can’t breathe, then go to the hospital and get liver-destroying remdesivir, and get put on a ventilator where you slowly die all alone. I’m sure nearly everyone reading this knows someone who died this way (my grandfather did). We now know, however, that many doctors including Dr. Peter McCollough, Dr. Pierre Kory, and Dr. Paul Marik have had tremendous success treating covid early with repurposed drugs like ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine. Despite the amazing results of their early treatment protocols, Dr. Fauci, the CDC, the mainstream media, and the medical industrial complex have tried to silence these doctors and block their patients from using these life-saving drugs. It is pure evil what they have done, and they can not be trusted.
So when the next pandemic hits (and Bill Gates seems to think there will be another one soon), what will your response be? Will you blindly trust the government, the media, and even your doctor? Will you be afraid? Or will you trust in God? Hopefully you will live by Psalm 56:11 which says, “In God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me.”
